CPC Strategy Debuts First Ever Comparison Shopping Engine Rankings for the 2010 Holiday Shopping Season

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - January 13, 2011) -  CPC Strategy (www.cpcstrategy.com), the leader in comparison shopping engine (CSE) campaign management, today released its first ever Comparison Shopping Engine Rankings for the 2010 Holiday Shopping Season.

The study measures and compares overall traffic driven, average revenue generated, conversion rate, return on spend, and average cost per click (CPC) among the top 10 comparison shopping engines.

Three notable developments stand out in the Comparison Shopping Engine Holiday Rankings:

  • Google Product Search secured the top spot as the most valuable search engine for merchants to list their products on during the Holidays, coming in with top marks for traffic and revenue. During the 2010 Holiday season CPC Strategy clients experienced a 40% increase in traffic and a 30% increase in revenue YoY from the shopping engine.
  • Amazon Product Ads secured the #2 spot as the best paid shopping engine to list your products on during the Holidays, with the second highest conversion rate at 3%. In addition the shopping engine did not raise its CPC rates during the Holidays, coming in with the 2nd lowest CPC among paid engines at around 32 cents, and the second lowest return on spend (spend / revenue) at 15%.
  • Become.com secured the spot as the engine with the highest ROAS among paid engines with a 13% return on ad spend, beating out Amazon Product Ads by 2%. The search engine is making a name for itself with their focus on driving high quality traffic to merchant websites.

CPC Strategy began commissioning quarterly rankings in January of 2009 to provide eCommerce merchants with insight into the comparison shopping industry. This report marks the first time CPC Strategy has created a survey for holiday shopping season specifically, highlighting engine performance during the important selling period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The report allows merchants to understand how each engine ranks in terms of size/volume, cost, and return rates.
