The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) of Toronto and the public relations community celebrated and recognized outstanding work among its peers at the annual Achieving Communications Excellence (ACE) Awards gala on April 21.

"The ACE Awards celebrate the best of the best in the public relations industry. This year was certainly no exception," said Lawrence Stevenson, APR, president of CPRS Toronto.

The highly prized Best Creative PR Campaign of the Year went to Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited for the campaign, Take a Load Off Toronto. Toronto Hydro created partnerships with local retailers and launched an impressive media blitz to communicate the energy benefits of using a clothesline instead of an electric clothes dryer.

The prestigious PR Campaign of the Year Award went to Cohn & Wolfe for the campaign, Crock-On: Revitalizing the Crock-Pot Brand. Cohn & Wolfe team members created the "Crocktober" concept, an over-arching theme that encouraged Canadians to use their Crock-Pot during October, and effectively revitalized a dated brand.

The award winners were selected by a distinguished panel judges made up of senior level public relations practitioners from top public relations school programs, agencies and government from the Toronto region.

Other notable winners include:

- Laura Ballantyne, PR Student of the Year

- John Muldoon, APR, Volunteer of the Year

- Martin Waxman, APR, PR Mentor of the Year

- Cathy Mitchell, Young PR Professionals of the Year

- Alison Reed, Young PR Professional of the Year
