Craftsman Studio Implements Mushroom Networks' Broadband Bonding™ to Power Online Storefront

Retailer Chooses Innovative Solution for Optimizing Internet Speed and Reliability While Bypassing the Need for Expensive T-1 Lines

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - October 6, 2010) -  Mushroom Networks, Inc., innovators of Broadband Bonding, today announced that TRUFFLE, the company's flagship product, has been implemented by Craftsman Studio to power its ecommerce storefront for high quality woodworking and woodcarving hand tools. The deployment solved a critical broadband services issue by providing the necessary Internet speed (both upstream and downstream) and reliability required to run Craftsman's day-to-day operations while drastically lowering its monthly broadband bill when compared to alternatives such as T-1 or MPLS services.

Craftsman Studio recently relocated its headquarters to an area where high-speed Internet was sparsely available. This impacted operations significantly as there was not enough bandwidth to efficiently update thousands of web pages and product images key for its online storefront. Single line DSL service was available but only provided a fraction of the upstream bandwidth required due to the headquarters' long distance from the Internet Service Provider. T-1 service was an option but came with a staggering price tag of over $500 per month plus additional installation costs.

Mushroom Networks' TRUFFLE allowed Craftsman Studio to combine four inexpensive AT&T DSL access lines into a single dedicated high-speed connection solving both upstream and downstream bandwidth requirements. In addition, Craftsman Studio opted to peer its TRUFFLE device with Mushroom Networks' Broadband Bonding Service, an optional add-on monthly subscription service for uplink bonding so that any type of Internet traffic is bonded added functionality and reliability. By employing TRUFFLE with Mushroom's Broadband Bonding Service, Craftsman Studio was able to exceed bandwidth requirements for its online storefront while achieving near 100 percent reliability.

"Our online storefront is responsible for over 80 percent of our revenues so having a fast and reliable broadband connection is paramount for the business," stated Bill Kohr, owner of Craftsman Studio. "When we moved headquarters we found ourselves in a bit of a quandary because the office was located in an area that did not have the broadband infrastructure in place to support our operations. Our two choices were slow or very expensive Internet service. Mushroom Networks' Broadband Bonding solution exceeded our requirements for speed, redundancy and cost. We now enjoy service much better than T-1 but only pay inexpensive DSL prices."

Mushroom Networks' line of Broadband Bonding products including TRUFFLE easily installs between the broadband modems and the local network at the customer's premises without requiring any configuration changes to the existing network and does not require any coordination with the ISPs. The device bonds as many as six high-speed Internet connections of any type, wired or wireless, from multiple service providers into a single Internet connection.

Small and medium businesses face many challenges when it comes to choosing Internet services. Legacy technologies like T-1 and MPLS are reliable but very expensive and yield slow performance when compared with today's DSL or cable standards. DSL and cable have fast downloads but offer slow upload speed which is unacceptable for many businesses. In addition, service quality can dramatically fluctuate depending on physical distance to the Internet Service Provider or time of day.

"High-speed Internet service has evolved to where it is now a service that requires high performance and no downtime for every business across the globe," stated Dr. Cahit Akin, CEO of Mushroom Networks. "Our Broadband Bonding innovation provides the best of both worlds when it comes to speed and cost. By combining several inexpensive broadband connections such as DSL into a single connection we can deliver fiber-like service to any business for just pennies on the dollar."
