In its latest release, the Craves app uses Slyce's visual search technology to bridge the worlds of celebrity fashion and m-commerce. Craves is able to identify actual, purchasable products from photos of celebrities. No longer do shoppers need to search and wonder what their favorite movie star wore at the latest awards show; now they can just snap a pic or scan from a magazine to find the exact dress, shoe, or handbag.
Craves is also featuring fashions from dozens of stars in the app's featured home feed, which shows how the celebrity wore the look and where you can buy it. Can't afford the wardrobe of a Hollywood a-lister? You can still check out their profile to get a sneak peek at their virtual wardrobe, then use the app to find similar versions of their outfits at multiple price points.
"When we first opened Craves up to users, we thought everyone would use the app to scan and find their friend's outfits. Much to our surprise, users instead submitted photos of their favorite celebrities -- lots of celebrities," said Craves app founder Scott Cormier. "The fashion finds were incredible and when users saw outfits from Craves on Facebook, they were 6x more likely to try the app if they were being worn by a celebrity."
Technology Sourcing Celebrity Looks For Less
Based on this feedback and usage, Cormier and his team set out to make the Craves app the ultimate tool for finding the celebrity looks you love, for less. The app also makes it easy to follow your favorite stars, and get updates every time a new outfit of theirs is identified. Users can even get sale alerts for the products, brands, and stores they follow.
"Craves has harnessed the incredible power of visual search to finally make celebrity fashion accessible for everyone," said Ted Mann, President of Slyce, which powers the Craves App's image recognition. "Scott and his team have built a gorgeous app that makes it dead simple and fun to get your favorite celebs look. Whether you're searching via your camera, or just browsing the app's feed, it's totally addictive."
This new functionality isn't just great for users; influencers and celebrities can also monetize their fashion sense by signing up to become a Craves Curator, sharing some of their favorite looks, and getting a cut of every purchase made from their profile.
Another exciting new feature in the Craves app update is magazine and catalogue scanning. Users can now instantly recognize a product by scanning an image of a celebrity, brand, or retailer in select printed material. Publishers interested in activating their print content and monetizing the looks in their publications can also sign up to become a Content Curator.
Craves launched in 2015 as part of a suite of consumer apps highlighting image recognition use cases. Slyce's technology is able to recognize key elements in clothes, shoes, and accessories in order to match the photo to an actual product. Shoppers can then purchase from hundreds of retailers and millions of products.
