CRC Health Group Appoints Dr. Vicki Berkus to Dual Role of Clinical Director of Its Nationwide Eating Disorder Programs & Medical Director for Eating Disorder Treatment at Sierra Tucson Facility

CUPTERTINO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 5, 2012) - CRC Health Group, the nation's largest provider of behavioral health and addiction treatment services, has announced the appointment of Vicki Berkus, MD, Ph.D., CEDS, to the dual role of Clinical Director of Eating Disorder Programs for CRC's network and Medical Director for Eating Disorder Treatment at its Sierra Tucson facility.

In her CRC role, Dr. Berkus will lead the integration of all five of CRC's nationwide eating disorder treatment programs to develop a coordinated continuum of services. The enhanced breadth and depth of clinical expertise will increase each facility's ability to manage even the most complex and challenging eating disorder patients, strengthening the company's leadership role in the eating disorder industry. CRC's eating disorder treatment network includes Carolina House (Durham, NC), Center for Hope of the Sierras (Reno, NV), Montecatini (Carlsbad, CA), The Victorian (Newport Beach, CA), and Sierra Tucson (Tucson, AZ).

In her role for Sierra Tucson, Dr. Berkus will have primary responsibility for the enhancement and oversight of the eating disorder treatment program.

"We are very pleased that Dr. Berkus will be leading our national network of outstanding eating disorder treatment programs," said Candance Henderson-Grice, MS, President, Healthy Living Division for CRC Health Group. "Vicki is a pioneer in this field with a phenomenal depth of knowledge and understanding for treating patients with eating disorders. She will be a true asset to our programs, our staff and most importantly our patients."

Dr. Berkus is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, and had formerly worked as a psychiatrist for Sierra Tucson from 1994 to 2002. She also has served as Medical Director for a large eating disorder and substance abuse treatment facility in Florida, was Chief Scientific Officer for American Medical Technologies, was a professor at Oklahoma City University for seven years, and had her own private practice for six years. In addition, Dr. Berkus has consulted with numerous eating disorder treatment facilities across the country.

"Sierra Tucson is excited to welcome Dr. Berkus back to our treatment family and eager to have her lead our distinguished eating disorder treatment program," said Stephen Fahey, MSW, MBA, Executive Director of Sierra Tucson. "Her specialized expertise will help ensure that Sierra Tucson is providing the highest level of clinical excellence, and that these standards are consistently met throughout all of CRC's eating disorder programs."

Dr. Berkus has been extensively involved with national eating disorder and healthcare organizations. She served on the National Speakers Bureau for Takeda, Cephalon and Bristol-Meyers/Squibb. She is the past president of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP), and is actively involved with the Eating Disorders Consortium, the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED), and the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). She also is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

"Coming back to Sierra Tucson is like coming home," said Dr. Berkus. "It is a pleasure to see so many familiar faces and receive the warm welcome and support. I am looking forward to implementing new ideas into the eating disorders program and working with a dedicated team of professionals!"
