Credit Counselling Services of Alberta Marks Milestone
Year for Helping Albertans with Money Issues

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - March 29, 2005) - Albertans are working
hard to get their debt and credit problems under control. In 2004, over
20,000 people contacted Credit Counselling Services of Alberta (CCSA)
about budget, debt and credit issues. A total of 2620 went through
personal finance assessments, 2778 attended workshops held in
communities throughout the province and 1142 enrolled in the Orderly
Payment of Debt (OPD) consumer repayment program. CCSA is the only
agency legislated to provide OPD in Alberta.

Executive Director Fran Smith says, "The numbers speak for themselves.
We continue to meet the needs of Albertans by providing them with the
skills, resources and programs they need to get out of debt, use credit
wisely and manage their money through budgeting. Many people have told
us they want to repay their debts, pay their bills on time and save for
the things that are important to them, as well as prepare for unforeseen
expenses."

It was a milestone year for the not-for-profit organization as it served
its 125,000 Albertan through its toll free information service. Since
its inception in 1997, over 22,000 Albertans have attended a CCSA
workshop, more than 16,400 have had personal assessments and over 6,400
have participated in OPD.

"We are committed to providing compassionate, respectful and
personalized service for our clients, and finding a money management
solution that is right for them. For some, OPD is the answer and our
clients' success rate on this program is setting the standard across
Canada", says Smith. "In 2004, 88% of our clients successfully repaid
over $11 million to creditors. Our cumulative total for this program is
over $47 million that has been repaid to businesses, governments, family
and friends."

CCSA works in over 270 communities across the province and is accessible
to all Albertans through its toll free information line and Web site. In
2004, the Web site content was expanded to include more information,
tools, on-line filing and ordering, and an on-line feedback service.

Credit Counselling Services of Alberta will host its Annual General
Meeting on Tuesday, March 29th at 4:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Palliser
Hotel, 133 - 9th Ave SW, Calgary. Credit Counselling Services of Alberta
is a not-for-profit organization educating Albertans on how to budget,
get out of debt, use credit wisely and get the most from their money.
