Credit Counselling Services of Alberta: Alberta Agency Leads National Standards

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - July 7, 2005) - Credit Counselling Services of Alberta (CCSA) has been recognized for its outstanding contribution to enhancing the quality and availability of not-for-profit credit counselling services at a national meeting held in Saint John, N.B., June 27, 2005.

The organization was presented with the Agency Award from Credit Counselling Canada at the fourth Annual General Meeting. The award is one of four developed to recognize and honour significant achievements to the aims and objectives of Credit Counselling Canada, the national association for 13 not-for-profit credit counselling agencies in Canada.

The award, based on nominations from other member agencies, acknowledges the dedication of Fran Smith, Executive Director of CCSA and agency staff, for leadership in establishing a national Accreditation Program for credit counselling agencies. The program, launched last month, requires that member agencies meet accreditation standards by establishing and demonstrating specific competencies and procedures within a given time period. CCSA plans to be one of the first agencies to complete the accreditation process, which can take up to a year.

"I see our involvement as a solid investment in our future and in the welfare of people with financial problems," says Smith. "There are a growing number of organizations offering credit advice and repayment services to Canadians, but some real advantages in dealing with a provincial not-for-profit business that has national ties and standards."

Credit Counselling Services of Alberta is a not-for-profit organization educating Albertans on how to budget, get out of debt, use credit wisely and get the most from their money. For those who need it, CCSA also offers a variety of unbiased debt-counselling services and alternatives. Visit
