Criteria Corp Study Shows Almost a Quarter of Job Candidates Lack Basic Computer Literacy

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 11, 2011) - Criteria Corp announced today that a study that the pre-employment testing company performed based on the results of its popular new test, the Computer Literacy and Internet Knowledge Test (CLIK), shows that 24% of the job candidates tested lack basic computer literacy.

Since the launch of the CLIK six months ago, employers have administered the CLIK to over 20,000 candidates. The CLIK measures the ability to use the internet, email and other basic desktop applications. The data analyzed by Criteria Corp revealed that 24% of job candidates who took the CLIK received "Not Proficient" scores. The study also revealed that many applicants could not perform basic tasks such as retrieving information via a Google search (37% of applicants), formatting an email (32% of applicants), and copying and pasting text (21% of applicants).

Criteria Corp CEO Josh Millet described the implications of the data. "While I'd caution that the results of the study aren't necessarily representative of the entire working population, the results are still alarming. The large number of candidates who lack basic proficiency with computers is a stubborn reminder that even in the digital age employers cannot afford to take computer literacy for granted."

Further details of the study can be found in a company blog post here.
