Cross Border Ltd.: Short-listed Nominees Announced For 2006 Canadian Investor Relations Awards

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2006) - Canadian investors have made their choice for the country's top corporate communicators. Cross Border, event producer, publisher of IR magazine and host of the IR Magazine Canada Awards, today announces those companies short-listed for awards in 20 categories as voted for by investors and analysts. The winner in each category will be announced at a black-tie event on January 26, 2006 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.

The IR Magazine Canada Awards are the latest in the ongoing annual series of surveys and awards conducted around the world by Cross Border. Winners of the investor relations awards are selected through independent surveys of investment professionals and retail investors. These investor perception studies together make up the world's largest survey of its kind, canvassing over 8,000 portfolio managers, buy-side and sell-side analysts and retail investors in more than 14 countries or regions. Survey respondents nominate companies in specific categories and offer their opinions on specific IR-related topics and trends.

Cross Border launched the IR Magazine Canada Awards in 1998. This year Mary Maude Research interviewed 250 buy-side and sell-side analysts and portfolio managers who nominated companies in 18 categories (see attached for a full list of nominees). Thomson Financial supplied the contact details for the respondents. In addition, PrecisionIR from WILink surveyed over 200 retail investors, with average investment portfolios of $500,000 and with three quarters having over ten years' experience investing in stocks and bonds. Erdos & Morgan conducted research in the US market for the award for best Canadian IR in the US market.

The research also encapsulates industry changes, reviews investors' requirements and investigates contemporary developments affecting the IR profession, such as the most important attributes of an investor relations officer, the role of the IRO in relation to the board, earnings guidance, the importance of corporate governance and recommended improvements in corporate IR. Detailed results are compiled in the publication Investor Perception Study, Canada 2006: Winning companies, winning strategies.

Among the short-listed companies, CN, EnCana, Rogers Communications and Suncor Energy are competing for the grand prix for best overall investor relations in the over $10 bn market cap category. ATI Technologies, Canadian Tire, Dofasco and SNC-Lavalin vie for the grand prix in the $1 bn to $10 bn market cap group.

Other short-listed nominees are CN's Bob Noorigian, Inco's Sandra Scott, Rogers Communications' Bruce Mann, Royal Bank of Canada's Nabanita Merchant and Suncor Energy's John Rogers in the best investor relations officer over $10 bn market cap category.

CEOs short-listed in the best investor relations by a CEO category are Hunter Harrison of CN, EnCana's Gwyn Morgan and Manulife Financial's Dominic D'Alessandro. A comprehensive list of all the nominated companies in every category is attached.
