CrowdStar Announces Expansion on Japanese Social Networks as It Vaults to No. 2 Facebook Developer Position Behind Zynga

Game Launches on Yahoo! Mobage Platform in Japan Follow New Facebook Game Releases and Record Third Quarter Revenue

DUBLIN, IRELAND and BURLINGAME, CA--(Marketwire - October 7, 2010) -  CrowdStar, the leading creator of popular social games, including category leader "Happy Aquarium," announced today its plans to accelerate growth and product development in the United States and Japan through 2010 and beyond, on the heels of the largest revenue-generating quarter in the company's history.

Keeping with its penchant for building a culture centered on product development and creative talent, the company plans to hire more developers, artists and product managers, as it scales up its production schedule for the fourth quarter (information on careers with CrowdStar is available at http://www.crowdstar.com).

Key initiatives in CrowdStar's agenda for expansion and scaling include entering new markets, launching new products and development on mobile platforms:

  • Today's launch of "Happy Aquarium" and "Happy Island" on Yahoo! Mobage in Japan
  • Several new game launches on Facebook through December 2010
  • Upcoming launches of mobile versions of all its Facebook games through YouWeb-incubator partnerships

"CrowdStar is an exciting center of social gaming where talented people can really shine," said Pete Hawley, Vice President of Production. Hawley is a 20-year games-industry veteran, and former vice president at Electronic Arts, who led EA's internal Social Gaming efforts. "If you want to be recognized for your efforts as a key member of a social game development team, you have to be at CrowdStar."

CrowdStar recently began beta-testing two new games: "CrowdStar's It Girl," a breakthrough role-playing game for women, and "Pop Boom," a wildly addictive minute-long matching game. In the first few weeks of the beta test, the games were played more than 12 million times by millions of players around the world. Additionally, AppData recently reported CrowdStar's climb to the No. 2 leader in social gaming, as measured by monthly active users.

"CrowdStar has its foot on the gas -- we're aggressively scaling the company to build on all the momentum we gained this summer," said Niren Hiro, CEO of CrowdStar. "We have the management team and the infrastructure in place to successfully expand our production capacity, drive dozens of new merchandising programs that delight our customers and increase our yields, and expand CrowdStar's footprint around the world, especially in Japan. We're prepared to go to the next level."
