CSC Has Resources to Help You Prepare for Restorative Justice Week 2011

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 22, 2011) - The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) encourages communities across Canada to organize events to celebrate the upcoming Restorative Justice Week, November 13-20, 2011.

Organizations and individuals looking for resources to assist them with events and activities should contact the Restorative Justice Division of the CSC.

Materials available include resource kits, posters, bookmarks and event ideas to help you celebrate "Re-visioning Justice," the theme for this year's Restorative Justice Week.

This theme calls upon Canadians to envision how a restorative justice approach can be applied and implemented within a broader social justice context. It is a challenge to those who work in the health care, educational, justice, correctional and all other systems and/or levels of government, to be creative and innovative in looking at 'justice' through a restorative justice lens.

Restorative Justice is an approach to justice that emphasizes healing for victims, meaningful accountability of offenders, and the involvement of citizens in creating healthier, safer communities.

The National Restorative Justice Symposium will take place in Kamloops, British Columbia, November 13-15, 2011. The Symposium Banquet will include the presentation of the National Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award on November 14, 2011.
