CSC: Restorative Justice Week 2005-Wisdom Gained through Experience

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 19, 2005) - As Restorative Justice Week 2005 rapidly approaches, the Ottawa Restorative Justice Week Planning Committee would like to invite you to participate in an exciting one-day Restorative Justice Symposium.

This year's Restorative Justice Week theme, "Wisdom Gained through Experience" underlines the importance of sharing collective wisdom gained from experiences of victims, offenders, practitioners, community groups, and leaders. It is this sharing of experience which has led to the growing interest in restorative justice principles throughout the world.

In order to honour this year's theme, the Planning Committee has organized a symposium targeted at the interests of a wide range of national partners. We also hope to stimulate discussion about the potential role for a National Restorative Justice Association in Canada. By focussing on several key areas of interest, the primary purpose of the event is to provide participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and to participate in stimulating dialogue in a number of areas including: media relations & restorative justice; balancing the interests of stakeholders (victims, offender, community, government); meeting the needs of restorative justice practitioners; and, emerging research priorities.

The Symposium will be held on November 19th, 2005 at Parliament Hill (West Block) in Ottawa followed by an evening dinner reception at which time, this year's recipient of the 2005 Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award will be announced.

The registration cost for the Symposium and the Reception is $125. Special rates are available for students. The Fairmont Chateau Laurier is offering a reduced rate of $125.00 per night for participants needing accommodations while in Ottawa. To register for the symposium please visit the conference website at:

We look forward to seeing you at the event.
