Three ViCCi units are now operational at the main entrances of Mill Woods Town Centre. Each unit features a large format interactive LCD touch screen on the front side that assists shoppers find stores, products and services. The back screen features a narrowcast network that airs multimedia advertising and information content.

"We are thrilled to be involved with this cutting edge technology that will enhance our customers' shopping experience by providing up to date information utilizing a user friendly system," said Connie Nesbitt, General Manager of Mill Woods Town Centre.

Along with providing wayfinding and customer service information, ViCCi also collects valuable data detailing what consumers are looking for, and what services they value most.

The first of its kind in the world, ViCCi is an interactive technology that uses high definition plasma screens, LCD touch screens and 3D technology to help consumers locate products, services, and stores as well as answering frequently asked questions. At the heart of the system is an animated virtual assistant, called ViCCi, that responds verbally at a touch to give directions, provide store descriptions, and supply product information to consumers.

Visionstate specializes in providing virtual customer care applications in public places. The technology is designed to provide solutions to shrinking labor markets by empowering consumers to easily and quickly access customer service information in facilities such as shopping centres, transit systems and restaurants.

"As the labor market continues to shrink demographically, more and more companies will be looking at technology as a solution to offering high level, consistent customer service," Putters said. "ViCCi represents a significant step forward in providing this solution."

ViCCi, which stands for virtual customer care interface, is now installed in three shopping centres within Alberta, including Calgary and Edmonton. Together the units have seen more than one million interactions since being launched in 2006. Visionstate is now working on installing ViCCi units in public facilities in other major centres across Canada.
