CSOonline.com Expands IT Security News Coverage With "Salted Hash"

Salted Hash Section Provides IT Security News Coverage as Well as a Daily Email Alert

FRAMINGHAM, MA--(Marketwire - December 21, 2010) - IDG's CSO, the security media brand providing insight into business risk leadership, announces the addition of Salted Hash, a new section on CSOonline.com as well as a daily email newsletter providing comprehensive IT security news and analysis.

Businesses face a variety of evolving-threats that require their security practitioners to be constantly aware of what's happening and where risk lies. In fact, according to the 2011 Global Information Security Survey, the top three security spending drivers are economic conditions, business continuity/disaster recovery and company reputation*. By combining CSO's longstanding thought leadership with daily news of breaches, incidents, legal developments and more, Salted Hash furthers CSOonline.com's reach into IT and security organizations.

"The addition of Salted Hash enhances the content on CSOonline.com, truly making it a one-stop-shop for IT and security professionals looking to stay on top of IT security issues," says Derek Slater, editor in chief, CSO. "We have always provided industry-leading insights into security leadership challenges. With Salted Hash we are adding more breaking news and incident analysis to keep our readers up-to-the moment. This makes CSOonline.com the most comprehensive source of information for both proactive and responsive security management."

Salted Hash is a play on two terms from cryptography (a 'hash value' is the output of a cryptographic algorithm, and 'salt' refers to extra information added to a password or algorithm to make it hard to crack).

"The world of security is changing everyday through new regulations, and organizational and personal threats and our audience needs to understand the evolving risks and how to respond," says Bob Bragdon, publisher, CSO. "In addition to educating our audience of security practitioners, the addition of Salted Hash will help educate security solution providers about the changing security climate so that they can provide products and services to help secure organizations."

These enhancements are in addition to the recently announced CSO Daily Dashboard -- providing constant security threat data updates aggregated from industry sources in an at-a-glance format.
