CTEK Launches Its First Energy Management System, the CTEK SmartPass

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2010) - CTEK, a leading global brand in battery maintenance and care, has launched the CTEK SmartPass, its first onboard energy management system.

The CTEK SmartPass allows energy produced from solar, wind, AC chargers and alternators to be synchronised to maximise output and minimise charge time. The energy is then able to be distributed to different battery banks and/or equipment such as lights and navigational systems that need additional energy, while ensuring the battery remains fully charged.

SmartPass also has an integrated 'battery guard' which protects deep cycle batteries from harmful total discharge and ensures that critical equipment such as radio, emergency lights and navigation systems always function.

With a temperature sensor to protect batteries against high temperatures, the SmartPass is a fully automatic energy management system, which can handle up to 80A for batteries of between 28-800Ah. The energy management system is IP65 classified (water jet and dust protected and approved for outdoor use) and suitable for all types of 12V lead-acid batteries.

Borje Maleus, VP Business Development at CTEK, commented: "Effective power management can be absolutely essential when there is limited or no access to battery chargers– like when at sea for example. If a battery went flat and equipment such as the GPS was unable to work, it could mean disaster. With the SmartPass, this is a situation that will never arise as power will be held in reserve for vital equipment and withheld from that which is considered non-essential."

Additionally, the unit is available to work in tandem with the D250S Dual smart battery charger, CTEK's DC/DC onboard charger, to create a 'total' energy regulator for energy production, usage and storage in any 12V DC system. Furthermore providing optimal charging via CTEK's unique staged charging cycle, the system will also protect the battery.

The CTEK SmartPass manages the energy transfer through the CTEK D250S Dual, which then converts and produces the optimal voltage of 14.4V, even if the alternator only produces 14V.
