Cuba celebrates two million visitors

Canadian tourists lead the way

Attention: Photo Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor, World News Editor HAVANA, CUBA, MEDIA RELEASE--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 30, 2006) - On Wednesday, November 29, 2006 Cuba celebrated the arrival of their two-millionth visitor this year.

For the third straight year, the island of Cuba has surpassed two million visitors, proving once again that this country has an outstanding destination offering.

With exceptional beaches and endless sun, it's no wonder that Cuba is often a Canadian favourite destination. In fact, Canadians are the largest group of Cuban holiday buyers. While a sunny get-away is reason enough to vacation in Cuba, Canadians are also lining up to experience the country's rich history, culture, and immerse themselves in nature.

Carlos Zambrano, Cuba Tourist Bureau director says, "Canada is a big part of the reason why Cuba has passed the two-millionth visitor mark. This even comes before the heavy season, when Canadians tend to 'fly south' for the winter!"

But is Cuba ready for the seasonal rush from the north? "Absolutely," says Zambrano, "Currently, all the tourist institutions and support companies are working tirelessly in preparation for the high season." Zambrano acknowledges that the Cuban people themselves are the country's biggest asset, who are beyond hospitable and do their best to meet visitors' every need, and exceed their travel expectations.

With a positive outlook for a successful winter season in Cuba, the country is sure to pass the "two million visitors" mark even earlier next year. /For further information: CUBA TOURISM RELATED IMAGE LINK:
