Cubic Transportation Systems Delivers iPhone App to RMV

Passengers in Rhein-Main Region Can Buy Mobile Tickets With Their iPhones

FRANKFURT, GERMANY--(Marketwire - October 26, 2010) -  Rhein-Main Verkehrsverbund (RMV) has always been at the cutting edge for mobile ticketing, and now the transport operator has introduced this mobile ticketing application in Germany for the Apple iPhone, based on a system maintained and developed by Cubic Transportation Systems, the transportation business unit of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB).

Cubic Transportation Systems (Deutschland) GmbH, with a registered business address in Frankfurt, has expanded its system for mobile ticketing and delivered to RMV an iPhone application version. Apps are popular with iPhone users, and the new one developed by Cubic lets registered RMV users simply tap the RMV logo on the touch screen to open the application and off they go! Valid inspection of the ticket displays an encrypted 2-D barcode -- a familiar feature for downloading airline boarding passes -- when you touch-screen the ticket.

Mobile phones have been used for mobile ticketing in Germany since 2006 and have been shown to be flexible, cashless and straightforward. Now iPhones are part of the mobile ticketing phenomenon. Single tickets, day tickets and also group day tickets can be purchased by mobile phone, at any fare stage and regardless of where in the RMV area that people are traveling.

"Many iPhone users in the Rhein-Main-area have been waiting for this app," said Marcus Platts, managing director of Cubic Germany, "and we are pleased to have delivered it first. As an iPhone user myself, I enjoy using my iPhone for buying RMV tickets."

Not only tickets can be bought with this new application: If you want to know when the next train to Darmstadt is leaving from Frankfurt main station, only a few clicks lead to the requested information. No matter which destination, the RMV iPhone app knows the answer. Also the current location function will advise where the nearest mode of transport is departing.

"That is what our customers require: get fast information and then buy a ticket," says Prof. Knut Ringat, chairman of RMV's management. "Searching for a timetable becomes redundant as well as looking for loose change. RMV is really a mobility service provider."

Cubic Transportation Systems is currently developing the background system for RMV's contactless smartcard electronic ticketing to be launched in 2011.
