Cultural Strategies Wins Digital PR Campaign of the Year Award

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 5, 2012) - Cultural Strategies, a multicultural marketing and communications agency based in Austin, Texas, was recognized last night at the 2012 Hispanic Public Relations Association's (HPRA) 2012 PRemio Awards, the association's 28th year to honor Hispanic industry leaders and recognize the best in Hispanic public relations campaigns.

The Social Revolución campaign (www.thesocialrevolucion.com), designed and implemented by Cultural Strategies, was awarded the PRemio Award for Digital PR Campaign of the Year. HPRA's PRemio Campaign Awards provide a forum that reflects the innovative, creative, and cultural competence of Hispanic campaigns recognized by the industry's leading professional Hispanic organization.

One person's grain of sand can make a world of difference. The Social Revolución is an effort to highlight individuals, organizations, and brands that impact communities large and small. Six winners representing the Mobilizer, Innovator and New Americano categories, and special honoree Puerto Rican duo Calle 13, were selected from among 140 nominations for those that have inspired change using digital platforms. Among the winners were Maria Teresa Kumar of Voto Latino and Lance Rios of Being Latino.

Cultural Strategies' Social Revolución premiered as the first Official Latino Lounge and Awards at SXSWi 2012. The Revolución built momentum within a few weeks of its launch in January. Using Facebook and Twitter as the primary medium, it reached people in 20 countries. During the event, 400 people gathered to celebrate the award winners in an unprecedented SXSWi experience that highlighted Latinos' impact on the digital space. The social nature of the event spread beyond the walls of the venue. Twitter potential reach peaked to 1.3 million people. Additionally, there was broad coverage from local blogs to national news organizations.

"South by Southwest is one of a kind," said Sebastian Puente, co-founder of Cultural Strategies. "It's a great opportunity to work with them to develop content and programming that reflects our bi-cultural experience. The success of our 2012 campaign inaugurated an effort we plan to build on for years to come."

The 2012 Social Revolución was sponsored by Univision News, MTV Tr3s, Hispanicize, LatinoMetro.com among others, and in the spirit of social media, collaborated with digital partners including Latina Lista, Latino Rebels, Twitteros, Juan of Words, Being Latino, The News Taco, Cósmica Artists, Giant Noise, Pachanga Fest, Cuéntame and The New Latina.

"Technology is activating communities in powerful ways," said Armando Rayo, VP of Engagement for Cultural Strategies. "This is an exciting time for Latinos to help shape the personality of our country. On behalf of our partners and our team, we're honored to receive HPRA's acknowledgement as we look forward to our 2013 campaign."
