Culture Vultures Flock to Cote d'Azur Festivals

Summer 2012 Sees a Series of Exciting Events for Every Taste Spring Up Across the French Riviera

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - July 25, 2012) - The arts, music and industry festivals compliment a tourist centre that already boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year, 115km of coastline and around 3000 restaurants. Thousands of culture-hungry holidaymakers descend upon the French Riviera to celebrate the amalgamation of influences upon art, music, gastronomy, theatre and much much more.

Nice is the largest city in the area and is home to one of Europe's leading jazz festivals. Nice Jazz Festival takes place in the picturesque Jardins de Cimiez during mid July. Set against the stunning backdrop of L'Eglise et Le Monastère Notre Dame de Cimiez, the festival features top quality acts from around the globe and represents many different types and trends in jazz with a mission to "shake up tradition to better express its spirit".1

For more traditional chamber music, there's a large programme of events running in the same location in early August called Les Nuits Musicales de Nice.

Those dedicated to dance music will be wowed by Les Plages Electroniques, a festival on the 2nd and 16th August in Cannes that brings together leading artists across a spectrum of electronic music including dubstep/drum 'n' bass, deep house, electro, electro hip-hop and techno.

'A la vie délibérée!' celebrates the history of artistic performances in the Cote d'Azur for the last 60 years. Staged as a review, this exhibition presents an enormous, fascinating collection of written and oral accounts, documents, photos and videos to bring the past to life in an engaging way.

For those who like their art to make a statement, the 'Extra Large' exhibition from the Centre Pompidou in Monaco includes oversized sculptures, installations and environments from National Museum of Modern Art featuring works by 20th century greats such as Joan Miró and Matta.

The widely renowned Cagnes sur Mer hosts the Château en Fête on the 4th August. Several dance troupes including Les Farfadets, Les Trolls and Murmurant will create an unforgettable atmosphere with a programme of eclectic performances throughout the evening.

Direct flights to Nice with Monarch start out at £36 from Birmingham. Visit to see how you could combine the sun-soaked pleasures of the Cote d'Azur alongside the superb ski facilities of the Andorran Pyrenees.
