CUPE 4163 reaches tentative agreement at UVic


VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - March 21, 2016) - After a prolonged bargaining process, CUPE 4163 reached a tentative agreement on behalf of workers in Components 1 and 2 at the University of Victoria. The agreement was reached late on Friday.

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released publicly until CUPE 4163 members have reviewed the agreement and held a ratification vote, expected to be completed by the end of March.

"We were able to reach this agreement thanks to both the strong efforts of our bargaining committee and our members, who showed strong solidarity and support," said CUPE 4163 President Greg Melnechuk.

CUPE 4163 represents approximately 1,100 members in Components 1 and 2 at the University of Victoria including Teaching Assistants, Lab Instructors, Computer Lab Assistants, Academic Assistants, Residence Life Leaders, Language Instructors, and Cultural Assistants. Component 3 of CUPE 4163, representing Sessional Lecturers, reached an agreement in June.
