CUPE Appoints New Atlantic Regional Director

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 5, 2010) - The Canadian Union of Public Employees has appointed Jacquie Bramwell as its new Atlantic Regional Director.

The Atlantic Region encompasses Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. CUPE represents 17,500 working women and men in NS and 6,000 in NL across the public sector.

Bramwell, originally from Cape Breton, has worked for the union for 20 years, first in the Sydney office as a National Representative, then transferring to the Halifax office four years ago.

Prior to being appointed to the Director's position she worked as the union's Equality Representative.

CUPE Nova Scotia President Danny Cavanagh says, "Jacquie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position; she was once a CUPE member and has worked her way up through the ranks. She is the first women to fill the role of director in the Atlantic Region and we are very happy to see her appointment ratified by the National Executive Board of our union."

CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador President Wayne Lucas says, "Not only is CUPE the country's largest union, it's the fastest-growing one too. As our membership in this region also continues to grow, we all look forward to working with Jacquie and the rest of our staff and local leadership to improve the lives of working families."
