CUPE Local 3890 reaches deal with Chignecto-Central Regional School Board

TRURO, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 18, 2012) - More than 500 school board workers with the Chignecto Central Regional School Board have a reached a deal in conciliation talks on so-called 'local issues'.

CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says, "We were successful in fighting off concessions that the Board was looking for. The bargaining team showed great solidarity and commitment to their members throughout the process and the credit goes to them."

CUPE Nova Scotia President Danny Cavanagh says, "We are glad to see this school board group settle their local issues. No one wants to see a disruption in services, especially over employer attempts to wring concessions from their employees."

Monetary issues are bargained provincially by the Nova Scotia School Board Council of Unions, which represents 3,700 CUPE school board workers outside of Halifax.

Their bargaining is expected to commence early in 2013.
