SAANICH, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 27, 2016) - Like many school boards throughout B.C., Saanich School District has been forced into a position where it will have to make cuts that will have a direct impact on school kids. Reductions in service will affect all K-12 students next year.
SD63 cannot balance its budget because of two actions by the BC Liberal government:
- The Province moved $700,000 of administrative savings into the general budget rather than dedicating those savings to programs and services for students.
- SD63 is being forced to pay $314,000 of annual costs for a new provincial network for internet access, up from $30,000 for the previous system, PLNet.
These two actions taken together equal $1,000,000 which amounts to SD63's shortfall.
