UK expert touring Canada

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 12, 2009) –

Attn: Health Reporters

An expert researcher on the connection between cleaning and health care associated infections will brief reporters on a special province-wide conference call this Friday, May 15, part of a national tour organized by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Steve Davies, senior research fellow at Cardiff University in Wales, will describe what health officials in the United Kingdom have done to contain the spread of deadly infections such as C. difficile, MRSA and VRE in health care facilities.

Davies will explain how Canadian governments, in contrast, are going down the wrong path with more overcrowding, understaffing, and contracting out of cleaning services. His presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.
