CUPE: Media Advisory-Sid Ryan Returns to Windsor for Meeting With Mayor Francis

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 22, 2009) - Sid Ryan is returning to Windsor to walk the line with city employees and to meet with Mayor Francis. After an unprecedented two hour long debate with Ryan on Monday, Windsor City Council passed a motion that he and Mayor Francis should meet to try and break the deadlock. Ryan is returning to Windsor today in order to comply with the motion and to support the picket lines of the striking workers.

"Windsor City workers are striking to protect wages and benefits negotiated over decades. The City forced the strike by creating a 'threshold issue' to be resolved before negotiations can even begin." Says Ryan. "And 'revenue neutral' negotiations are anything but neutral for workers. They will be taking a yearly wage cut compounded at the rate of inflation. I want to meet today with Mayor Francis to prevent these issues from making this a long and bitter strike."
