CUPE Media Advisory-The City of Sudbury Is Putting the Health of Many People at Risk-Members of CUPE Local 148 Will Rally to Fight Injustice

SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - Workers at Pioneer Manor, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), are concerned about the attitude of the City of Sudbury and the impact it could have on the health of many people.

Recently, the City of Greater Sudbury unilaterally imposed an inferior sick leave plan to the workers at Pioneer Manor. These changes have negatively impacted the workers and the residents they are servicing.

By refusing some sick leave time to its workers, the City of Sudbury is not only acting irresponsibly, but is also putting the health of many people at risk.

To inform the public about this situation and tell the City to respect the collective agreement they have signed with their workers, members of CUPE local 148 will hold two information pickets.

What: Information pickets by members of CUPE local 148
When: Wednesday, April 15 – 1:00 PM & 6:00 PM
Where: Pioneer Manor, 960 Notre Dame Avenue (at 1:00 PM)
  City Hall (at 6:00 PM)
