CUPE-Media Advisory: Town Hall Meeting Against Ambulance Privatization

CUPE-sponsored meeting to urge residents to say NO to ambulance privatization in West Nipissing

STURGEON FALLS, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 8, 2009) - The campaign to stop the privatization of ambulance service in West Nipissing shifts into high gear with a major Town Hall Meeting in Sturgeon Falls tomorrow night, organized by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the union representing 17 West Nipissing paramedics.

WHAT: Town Hall Meeting Against Ambulance Privatization

WHO: Speakers include:
  Phil Morris, MC
  Claude Gravelle, NDP MP
Jerome Leblanc, West Nipissing Police Association
  CUPE spokespeople

WHERE: Town Hall Auditorium, 225 Holditch Street, Sturgeon Falls

WHEN: Thursday, July 9, 7:00 PM

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) is talking to private companies that want to take over ambulance service in West Nipissing and run it for profit.

West Nipissing, with a population of roughly 13,000, already only receives 20 hours of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) coverage daily. Introducing a profit motive will put even more pressure on resources and could lead to less service.

The solution is for the DNSSAB to take over ambulance service in West Nipissing, says CUPE. Let's keep the ambulance service public and not weaken it by sucking money into private profits.
