CUPE members at Chignecto-Central Regional School Board reject so-called 'final offer'

TRURO, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 19, 2013) - More than 400 bus drivers, custodians and tradespeople with the Chignecto Central Regional School Board have rejected what their employer was calling a final offer in contract talks between the two sides.

CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says, "The membership of Local 3890 voted this past weekend on the Board's offer and it was rejected.

"The only outstanding issue in these contract talks is contracting out and how it affects job security for members of Local 3890. The local has taken a firm stand on this issue," explains Sutherland.

Local 3890 has already received a strike mandate from its membership.

Sutherland says, "The last thing our members want to do is withdraw their services. We are hopeful that the Board can take a more reasoned approach to solving this one outstanding issue, so that we can reach a negotiated settlement and avoid a strike."
