CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwire - Nov. 22, 2012) - The two CUPE locals representing municipal outside and inside workers in Corner Brook are very disappointed to learn that the City has already spent $50,000 training managers on equipment in the event of a strike.
CUPE National Representative Donna Ryan says, "This doesn't exactly demonstrate goodwill on the part of the employer. Our current collective agreements haven't even expired yet and they give every appearance that they're preparing for a work stoppage.
"As the city's municipal outside and inside workforce, we have made it quite clear that our goal is to reach a negotiated settlement and avoid a work stoppage," says Ryan.
"There is always a delicate balance that's required to have healthy labour relations and this type of provocative action certainly doesn't send the right message to employees," she says.
CUPE Local 706 represents approximately 35 inside workers and Local 768 represents about 100 outside workers with the City of Corner Brook.
