CUPE NL President says Michael served her party with distinction

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND--(Marketwired - Jan. 6, 2015) - CUPE NL President Wayne Lucas says Lorraine Michael served her party with distinction and with grace and she will be missed as leader.

Says Lucas, "I am proud to call Lorraine a friend and an ally. She has represented the interests of working people in this province with great ability and she's done it without abandoning her principles.

"I'm also pleased that Lorraine has decided to run again in Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi, where the NDP has a long history of solid representation for the people of that riding," says Lucas.

Lucas says, "CUPE looks forward to being part of the process of finding a new leader and taking labour's party into the next provincial election. When we look to the future as Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, it's important for people to remember that business interests have two parties to do their bidding, and labour has only one.

"Amidst all of the prosperity our province has recently experienced, we continue to have unacceptably high unemployment, affordable housing shortages, inadequate child care and a myriad of other social problems. The NDP is the one party that will address these issues head on," says Lucas.
