CUPE NL President to visit locked out municipal workers in Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwired - Jan. 21, 2015) - The president of CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador will be paying a visit to locked out municipal workers with the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay (HVGB).

Wayne Lucas will arrive in HVGB this evening and will be in town through to Friday, January 23. He will be accompanied by CUPE Atlantic Regional Director Jacquie Bramwell.

Says Lucas, "We are very proud of this group of workers and the stand they are taking to defend their pensions. On behalf of CUPE NL and the 6,200 members and 60 locals we represent across the province, I will be presenting Local 2019 with a cheque for $2,500.

"We hope this will go some small way to help these 43 employees with the hardships that go with being locked out from their workplaces and their jobs," says Lucas.

"I want them to know they are not alone in this important struggle. They have the support of our 630,000 members from across the country and the entire labour movement," says Lucas.
