CUPE Nova Scotia to Commemorate Day of Mourning in Six Locations


HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - April 11, 2016) - CUPE Nova Scotia will hold its annual April 28 National Day of Mourning ceremonies in six locations across the province this year.

This year CUPE is using the theme 'Mourn for the Dead. Fight for the Living - Now more than ever!' to mark this important day for workers. Twenty-seven workers died in 2015 in our province as a result of workplace accidents or injuries.

Events will take place as follows:

Halifax - The Nova Scotia Federation of Labour will host a ceremony at 11:00 am at Province House in Halifax on the grounds by the plaque that was erected in 2002. For information, contact Joan Wark at the NSFL office at (902) 454-6735.

Sydney - The Cape Breton and District Labour Council is holding a ceremony at 11:00 am at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128 on 850 Victoria Road, Whitney Pier. For information, please contact Carmie Erickson at (902) 322-5119.

Bridgewater - The South Shore Labour Council is having a ceremony at 7:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 78 Churchill Street in Bridgewater. For information, contact Labour Council President Lisa Mason at (902) 527-7567.

Port Hawkesbury - The Strait Area District Labour Council is hosting a ceremony at 7:00 pm at the UNIFOR Local 972 Union Hall in Port Hawkesbury at 323 Reeves Street. For more information, please call Jennifer Benoit at (902) 870-7665.

Kentville - The Annapolis Valley Labour Council is having a ceremony at 7:00 pm at the site of their new monument in Memorial Park on Park Street (at Main Street) in Kentville.
