CUPE nursing home employees ratify tentative agreement

DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - July 4, 2013) - Unionized staff at Oakwood Terrace in Halifax have ratified a new collective agreement. They are the first of CUPE's forty-seven long term care locals to vote on the tentative agreement reached on June 21st.

National Representative Marianne Welsh says, "The ratification meeting was held yesterday. The bargaining committee is proud of its contributions during provincial bargaining and is pleased with the 100 per cent vote in favour."

CUPE Long Term Care Co-ordinator Kelly Murray says, "Achieving dental benefits for members and their families is something this committee is very pleased to have been able to negotiate. The dental plan will go into effect this year."

CUPE's Long Term Care Co-ordinating Committee bargains provincially on behalf of about 3,300 CUPE nursing home workers who work in dietary, environmental services, maintenance, recreation and resident care. There are approximately 100 CUPE members at Oakwood Terrace.
