TRURO, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Jan. 28, 2014) - The strike by more than 400 CUPE bus drivers, custodians and tradespeople against the Chignecto Central Regional School Board has been averted for now.
CUPE National Representative Betty Jean Sutherland says, "Local 3890 and the Board have agreed to send the one outstanding issue, which is contracting out language, to a mediator.
"Both sides have agreed on Bruce Outhouse as that mediator," she says.
"We are also pleased to report that picket lines will be coming down as of 1:00 pm today. Both sides will endeavour to get operations back to normal as quickly as possible," says Sutherland.
Local 3890 President Ron Davis says, "We are also pleased with the outcome and I want to personally thank Local 3890 members for their strong support, as well as students and parents for their patience and understanding as we reached this agreement."
