CUPE's NSSBCU supports Chignecto Central School Board workers following strike votes

SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 17, 2012) - The union representing 3,700 school board workers across Nova Scotia says talks today between Local 3890 and the Chignecto Central School Board are being watched closely.

CUPE School Board Co-ordinator Kathy MacLeod says the Nova Scotia School Board Council of Unions (NSSBCU), will be watching those conciliation talks keenly after Local 3890 was forced to take a strike vote on so-called 'local issues'.

"We are hopeful that both sides will come to a negotiated settlement and avoid a disruption in service for that school board. The Council of Unions fully supports Local 3890 in their efforts to achieve that goal," she says.

Local 3890 has conciliation scheduled for today, December 17. The local recently received a very strong strike mandate from its members.

The NSSBCU bargains provincially on behalf of seven school boards outside of Halifax.
