Curriki Appoints Kim Jones as New Executive Director to Oversee Next Phase of Growth

CUPERTINO, CA--(Marketwire - January 26, 2011) - Curriki today announced the appointment of Kim Jones as executive director and chairman of the board to further advance Curriki as the world's leading online community for educators, parents and students to find, exchange, and contribute high-quality K-12 open curricula. Kim Jones joins Curriki from Sun Microsystems, where she served in a number of executive roles, including vice president of Sun's Global Education, Government and Healthcare, which is also where Curriki was originally incubated.

"Over the past year, Curriki has grown tremendously, with membership increasing to 160,000 global members and our free and open educational assets growing to more than 40,000 learning resources," said Kim Jones, chairman of the board and executive director of Curriki. "This year we're focusing on delivering the highest quality, standards-aligned STEM resources that will emphasize interactive and experiential content designed to engage today's students."

Prior to joining Curriki, Kim was president and managing director of Sun Microsystems' operations in the United Kingdom & Ireland. While at Sun, Kim also served as Sun's vice president of worldwide education and research for 7 years, where she co-founded Curriki with Scott McNealy. She has served as Curriki's chairman of the board since its founding in 2004. Kim was instrumental in transitioning Curriki from its origins at Sun Microsystems to a non-profit committed to advancing the open source educational resources movement.

"I am thrilled that Kim is expanding her role to include both chairman of the board and executive director of Curriki as it continues to attract educators worldwide in this year of record growth," said Scott McNealy, Curriki board member. "There is no one better qualified to lead Curriki and, as an original co-founder, Kim has both the vision and the operational experience to make Curriki the world's leading online community for creating and sharing free and open-source K-12 educational content."

Kim has extensive experience in the education arena and is currently on the MIT OpenCourseWare Advisory Board, and has previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Western Governors University and the Jason Foundation for Education.

She has been active in driving policy initiatives, evidenced by her testimony before the Congressional Web based Education Commission in the USA. She is also regularly featured as an honorary speaker on the impact of technology in education at influential meetings around the world, including NCTET, the Worldwide Education & Research Conference (WWERC) in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and other key public sector forums.

A not-for-profit organization with 160,000 members, over 40,000 learning assets and more than 1.6 million unique visitors per year, Curriki drives a broad agenda towards global educational excellence via open source peer-reviewed content, open access, and collaboration tools for teachers, students and parents worldwide.
