Curriki Launches Curriki Japan at Tokyo's Waseda University

Curriki Japan is First Asian Member of Curriki Affiliate Program (CAP)

CUPERTINO, CA--(Marketwired - April 16, 2014) - Curriki, the leading K-12 global community for creating, sharing, and finding open educational resources (OER), today announced the launch of Curriki Japan, the first of Curriki's Asian affiliates. An audience of over 300 educators, parents, students, and interested citizens attended the prestigious event at Waseda University, where leaders from Waseda University and Curriki launched Curriki Japan. Waseda University developed the affiliate program in Japan to fill the gap between students who have access to high-quality education and those who have lesser opportunity by making digital Open Educational Resources (OER) available on the web. Japanese students and parents are invited to visit Curriki Japan to use the available materials to strengthen their studies.

The all-volunteer team is working to translate resources from the Curriki library, which currently holds more than 55,000 teaching and learning resources. To date, over 330 resources have been translated into Japanese.

"Our main concern is to provide a better chance for students to access better learning resources including those provided by Curriki.org," said Yoichi Muraoka, Waseda University professor. "In the future, we plan to expand the scope of Curriki Japan's curriculum materials." The Curriki Japan team will also provide materials about Japanese culture that educators outside of Japan may use in their classrooms.

"We are thrilled to welcome Curriki Japan into the Curriki family as our very first Asian affiliate," said Kim Jones, CEO, Curriki. "Now so many of the same high-quality teaching and learning resources found on Curriki are available to Japanese educators, parents and students for free."

"I am extremely excited to see the successful take off of Curriki Japan," said Susumu Hasegawa, vice president and COO, Japan Third Party. "Congratulations to the extraordinary voluntary staff of Waseda University for an outstanding result and thanks for all of their efforts and hard work!"

A non-profit organization, Curriki is the leading K-12 global community for teachers, students and parents to create, share, and find open learning resources that improve teacher effectiveness and student outcomes.
