CUPERTINO, CA--(Marketwired - February 11, 2014) - By high school, half of all students (51 percent) carry a smartphone to school with them every day* and classroom usage of tablets, netbooks and other portable devices is on the rise. To address this trend, Curriki, the leading K-12 global community for creating, sharing, and finding open learning resources, today unveiled the Curriki Geometry website where usability and page design for its innovative Project Based Learning (PBL) geometry curriculum is optimized for mobile devices.
Available for free, students and teachers now have access to a geometry curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of students born in a global, interactive, digitally-connected world through the use of real-world examples, engaging projects, interactive technologies, videos and directed student feedback.
Curriki Geometry is a set of six Common Core Aligned projects delivered in a mobile-optimized web environment with access points for students and teachers. Teachers are provided with pacing guides, formative assessments, rubrics, guidance on managing a PBL project, tools to help teachers guide students as they learn to collaborate with each other, and reflection tools for both students and teachers. The projects require the use of technology tools, which students use so much in their daily lives, to investigate, evaluate, and collaborate.
The Buck Institute for Education's research shows that PBL is effective in building deep content understanding, raising academic achievement, and encouraging student motivation. "In Curriki Geometry, the projects relate to the real world, so students never have to ask 'why am I learning this?'" commented Kim Jones, Curriki's CEO. "Students become active, not passive, learners. Through working together in a more 'real-world' manner, they take ownership of their learning."
The ConnectED initiative's planned E-Rate Reform will help connect more students and provide faster access to Internet in schools so that digital learning resources like Curriki Geometry can become more widespread.
