Customization of Fortis™ Document Management Software Wins Innovation Award From California Judicial Council

Transcript Assembly Program (TAP) First in State to Automate the Compilation, Preparation, and Transmittal of Civil Court Transcripts

BRANFORD, CT--(Marketwire - Nov 17, 2011) - Westbrook Technologies, developer of Fortis™ and FortisBlue™ enterprise content management (ECM) software, today announced that the California Judicial Council named the state's Fifth District Court of Appeals as the 2011 recipient of the Ralph N. Kleps Award for Improvement in the Administration of the Courts based on its implementation of the Transcript Assembly Program (TAP), which is powered by a customized version of Fortis. TAP is the first initiative of its kind in the State designed to automate the compilation, preparation, and transmittal of civil court transcripts.

TAP has significantly slashed time and automated resource-intensive processes. The process -- which includes creating appeals transcripts and the manual tasks of compiling, copying, indexing, and sending relevant documents to the Appellate Court and the appropriate parties -- was extremely labor intensive. With TAP, appeals transcripts are automatically compiled and prepared from the original case files -- including customizable indices -- via Fortis and are then electronically transmitted to the appropriate court. TAP has also reduced paper use and storage costs, eliminated shipping costs in forwarding transcripts to the reviewing court, as well as provided easy public access to voluminous court records.

"Fortis is an indispensable tool for eliminating paper-intensive processes that are inherent in the judicial system," said Einar Haukeland, president and CEO of Westbrook Technologies. "Our software is flexible and scalable enough to be used in any legal setting -- from court systems to private practices -- to streamline the storage, retrieval, and transmittal of critical documents while delivering real cost-savings across the board."

Created in 1991, in honor of the first Administrative Director of the Courts in California, the Ralph N. Kleps Award recognizes programs that are innovative, have demonstrated results, and are transferable to other courts. The following video highlights the TAP initiative:
