CWDM4 MSA Group to Support Deployment of 2km 100G Links in Datacenters

New Consortium to Define and Promote Industry-Wide Adoption of 100G Interconnect Optical Specifications for 2km Link Distance Over Duplex Single-Mode Fiber

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 31, 2014) - The CWDM4 MSA (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexed 4x25G Multi-Source Agreement) Group today announced the formation of an industry consortium dedicated to defining specifications and promoting adoption of interoperable 2km 100G interfaces over duplex single-mode fiber (SMF).

To meet modern datacenter expansion requirements, the CWDM4 MSA members will focus on developing a new cost-effective duplex-fiber 100G optical interface to address the 2km link distance.

The CWDM4 MSA participants expect to address industry needs by advancing unique technologies to create a diverse and competitive supply chain, while providing products that are optically compatible.

"The IEEE standardized a cost-effective 100m solution known as 'SR4'. Beyond 100m, there is only the 'LR4' standard, which is targeted to achieve 10km. Customers, particularly hyperscale data centers, are looking for solutions up to 2km," remarked Dale Murray, principal analyst, LightCounting Market Research. "The industry is now coming together, through this MSA, to provide a cost-effective data center reach of 2km. This solution will smooth the process of getting to 100Gb Ethernet."

Members of the CWDM4 MSA include Avago Technologies, Finisar Corporation, JDSU and Oclaro, Inc. Requests for additional information, queries and interviews may be submitted at www.cwdm4-msa.org.
