Cyan Executives to Present "Software-Defined Networks: What Every Facilities-Based Service Provider Needs to Know" Webinar

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 4, 2012) - Cyan today announced that Steve West, chief technology officer for Cyan, and Frank Wiener, vice president of marketing for Cyan, will conduct a Comptel webinar titled, "Software-Defined Networks: What Every Facilities-Based Service Provider Needs to Know," on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. The free webinar will be live at 11:00 a.m. PT, with access to its recording later. Steve and Frank's presentation will review what software-defined networks (SDN) are all about and why this new network construct has gained so much industry interest. This disruptive new network framework has gained industry-wide interest for transforming data center networks. Most recently, Google shared that they've implemented SDN throughout their private global backbone network. But the promise of SDN is equally, if not more, compelling to facilities-based service providers.

The concepts are simple, yet very compelling. Transform historically closed, single-vendor networks or operationally complex and disjointed multi-vendor networks into software-defined metro networks with products from different vendors, all operated via a common centralized control system and enhanced with open APIs to facilitate innovation. Equally compelling is the resulting ability to virtualize networks. Virtualization enables network operators to partition and share network resources with wholesale partners, end users and even applications that can dynamically monitor performance, initiate tests, and activate new services without network operator intervention. This operational framework will reduce costs, while making the network more agile to support rapidly changing service requirements and new business models.

This webinar will review SDN; discuss why it's gaining so much market interest; and, explain how these same concepts are being leveraged within software-defined metro networks to enable services innovation and compelling cost reductions.
