Cyan's TowerAware Solution Provides Wireless Backhaul to Over 1000 Towers Supporting AT&T, Verizon, and Others

Z-Series Packet-Optical Transport Platforms and Cyan 360 Software Systems Deliver a Competitive Edge in Providing Backhaul Services for Major Mobile Service Providers

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2011) - COMPTEL -- Cyan today announced that TowerAware(SM), the company's wireless backhaul-optimized solution announced in June of this year, has now been deployed to well over one thousand towers and has been proven to deliver the competitive edge required to win key backhaul service contracts from leading mobile service providers such as Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, and T-Mobile. Cyan's TowerAware solution consists of wireless-backhaul-optimized components including the industry leading Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms (P-OTPs), CyPlan for TowerAware network planning, CyMS for multi-layer network management, and CyPortal for SLA assurance and customer portal services. Collectively, these elements comprise a broader Service Level Aware Network(SM) framework that satisfies even the most demanding services, including 3G and 4G/LTE wireless backhaul.

"Wireless backhaul is an exploding market opportunity that many of our customers are aggressively pursuing," said Eric Clelland, vice president of sales for Cyan. "We're pleased that our TowerAware solutions have been instrumental in giving our customers the service differentiation, scale, and performance they need to prevail in highly competitive backhaul bids."

TowerAware Solution Further Bolstered by New Products and Features

Responding to heightened customer demand for edge-optimized solutions, Cyan recently introduced the Z22 as the newest component of its TowerAware solution. The Z22 is a 2RU packet-optical transport platform providing carrier-grade functionality, scalability, and performance that is far superior to edge routing and Ethernet switching solutions for Ethernet-centric edge applications such as 3G/4G wireless backhaul. Temperature-hardened in the industrial rated range of -40 to +65 degrees Celsius, and available with optional 24V power, the Z22 is ideally suited for deployments in remote cabinets and at cell sites in fiber-to-the-tower (FTTT) environments. The option to overlay 10 Gigabit connection oriented Ethernet wireless backhaul services on fibers already supporting existing packet or SONET/SDH services enables Z22's to easily snap into existing networks to scale fiber and capacity constrained edge networks.

Cyan also recently added end-to-end network latency modeling to CyPlan, allowing customers to more efficiently design and plan multi-layer backhaul networks that accommodate the stringent SLAs common to major mobile service providers.

The Cyan Z22 and the CyPlan latency modeling will be demonstrated along with several multi-vendor solution integration enhancements in Cyan's booth (#108) at the Comptel Plus Fall Convention and Expo in Orlando.
