Cynthia F. Steer of Rogerscasey Named 2010 Distinguished Woman Investment Professional of the Year

DARIEN, CT--(Marketwire - October 13, 2010) -   Cynthia F. Steer, Chief Research Strategist and Head of the Beta Research Group at Rogerscasey, has been named the 2010 Distinguished Woman Investment Professional of the Year by the 200-member, Chicago-based organization, Women Investment Professionals (WIP). Past recipients of this award have included the Honorable Stephanie D. Neely, Treasurer of the City of Chicago, Susan E. Manske, CIO of the MacArthur Foundation, and Robin S. Ross, Managing Director at the CME Group. 

WIP is a non-profit organization of professional women in the institutional investment business, including plan sponsors, consultants, investment managers, attorneys and accountants. WIP recognizes an outstanding woman in the investment industry each year who, over a distinguished career and through her personal conduct, commitment and activities, has exemplified her support for the advancement of women within the industry and her community. Treasa Moran, President of WIP, stated, "Cynthia is well-deserving of this award given her exceptional leadership qualities, her integrity, her concern for others as well as the fact that she is a strong supporter of WIP."

Before joining Rogerscasey in 2002, Steer was the CIO for SBLIUSA. Prior to joining SBLIUSA, Steer was Vice President for Benefit Investments at Philip Morris and Director of Pension Investments for United Technologies where she was responsible for their global defined benefit and defined contribution plans. She was also in-house consultant and CIO for the City of Hartford. 

Steer serves on the Investment Committees of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, The Greater New Haven Community Foundation and the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. In addition, she is a Co-Chair of the Advisory Board of the World Bank Gemloc Fund. She is a member of the JP Morgan Emerging Markets Index Advisory Board and The Emerging Market Forum. Steer is a frequent speaker and has appeared on CNBC and Bloomberg TV.

Steer graduated with a B.A. in Urban Studies from Smith College, holding a M.S. from The Bank Street School, New York, and a M.B.A. from The Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania.
