SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 17, 2014) - Huawei, one of the world's leading mobile device makers, has designed TrueTouch® Gen4 capacitive touchscreen controllers from Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) into five of its newest smartphones. The TrueTouch controllers drive the touchscreen interface on Huawei's economical new Honor 3X and 3C smartphones, as well as on its Ascend G716, G730, and G740 smartphone models. Huawei is one of the world's fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers, climbing to the No. 3 position in worldwide unit sales last year with year-over-year growth up 67.5%, according to estimates from the market research firm IDC.
Gen4 delivers best-in-class immunity to electrical noise from sources such as after-market chargers and displays, and it enables leading water tolerance. This combination provides accurate touch input and finger tracking in environments where competing solutions experience false and missed touches. The TrueTouch portfolio's unique features are backed by an industry-leading portfolio of more than 100 capacitive touch sensing patents. Huawei selected Cypress based on its technical leadership, competitive pricing, and strong global technical support.
"Much of what makes a smartphone stand out from its competitors is the outstanding user experience, high quality and consistent performance under any environment -- and that's what TrueTouch brings to Huawei smartphones," said Shuo Zhang, vice president of worldwide mobile sales at Cypress. "Cypress TrueTouch offers unmatched signal-to-noise ratio performance, enabling a superior user interface experience. It also delivers features such as hover, proximity sensing, stylus support, waterproofing, and charger noise mitigation that significantly enhance the user experience and preserve battery life. We strive to provide top customer service to support the innovative system solutions we help bring to the market."
Cypress's TrueTouch Gen4 controllers deliver an array of technologies that competing solutions cannot match. Gen4 employs Cypress's patented DualSense™ technology to execute both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device, and switch dynamically between the two in application. This ability enables glove tracking, passive stylus support, and face detection features, as well as TrueTouch's unrivaled water rejection capability. Cypress's touch-sensing portfolio is the industry's broadest and most well adopted, encompassing TrueTouch, CapSense®, and TrackPad solutions. The company's unmatched IP portfolio includes true, single-layer sensor solutions with Cypress's Single-Layer Independent Multi-touch (SLIM®) sensor for dramatically reduced touchscreen costs.
