D-Link at Interop '08: A Virtual Business Networking Scenario

Green Smart Switches to 11n WLAN and IP-Based Video Surveillance Offer Cost-Effective Alternatives for Growing Businesses

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - April 28, 2008) - Booth 1813, Mandalay Bay -- D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business, plans to show off its latest product solutions for network switching, security, surveillance, wireless, storage and IP-based telephony when Booth 1813 turns into a virtual business networking scenario at Interop 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas April 29 to May 1.

Recognizing the need for growing small to medium-sized businesses (SMB) to tighten their belts in a weakened economy, D-Link is using the annual event to demonstrate how its cost-effective solutions allow SMBs to stay competitive by maintaining and expanding their computer and IP networking capabilities with the latest technology at the most affordable pricing.

IP Networked Video Surveillance

Advancements in digital video cameras have taken video surveillance to a new level as more businesses and organizations are finding the cost-effective investment a necessity for securing their property and personnel at the workplace. Using D-Link's IP video surveillance solutions, business owners or IT managers can monitor, store and archive video with audio across private data networks. With D-ViewCam™, D-Link's IP camera management software, there is access to a wide range of automated software settings and alert systems that make security management more efficient, less costly and more intelligent. D-ViewCam supports up to 32 cameras and offers numerous functions to allow event and motion triggering. Local and remote monitoring is provided to those with the proper access credentials using a standard browser that can monitor video as well as control and configure the cameras from any location that has Internet or private network connectivity. Key to any large-scale surveillance solution is storage and retrieval of video footage. D-Link's xStack™ iSCSI storage fills this need by offering up to 15 TB of networked storage. The cameras, storage and server tie together through a D-Link managed switch using VLANs and will be demonstrated in the D-Link booth.

D-Link offers a wide variety of IP cameras, with video only, audio/video and two-way audio with speaker attachments and built-in microphone options for both indoor and outdoor applications, along with enclosures to protect them against extreme weather conditions. The newest IP cameras on display are the D-Link DCS-5610 pan/tilt/zoom with power over Ethernet (PoE) and the DCS-3410 with day and night monitoring, PoE and optional iris lens.

The Freedom of Wireless

D-Link offers every component for the ideal converged wired and wireless network in any business environment, including switches and access points (APs). The company's xStack family of switches includes the DWS-3227P 24-port gigabit unified wireless switch with 10-gigabit uplinks, DWS-3227P with power over Ethernet (PoE) and 48-port DWS-3250. All support management through the graphic user interface (GUI) command line interface (CLI), and most are stackable. An easy-to-implement and affordable wireless switching solution is the DES-1228P Web Smart™ switch when used with DWL-3140AP thin APs.

The D-Link DES-1228P is the first smart switch in the industry to offer wireless features without adding to the cost. It does not require wireless license keys or user royalty/premium add-ons that are typically used by wireless controller vendors.

D-Link will also be unveiling a variety of APs featuring draft 802.11n technology for better bandwidth and coverage, multiple operational modes and flexible management and PoE capabilities. The desktop DAP-2553 or plenum-rated DAP-2590, for instance, are designed for SMBs looking or a switchable dual band (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz) AP that is backwards compatible.

Storage and Data Recovery

One of the hot topics at Interop will be storage. D-Link will demonstrate its xStack Storage™ iSCSI 3000 series for SMBs that need greater data storage capacity and better data recovery at a price they can afford. Major features built into the 3000 Series are iSCSI "system-on-a-chip" (SoC) technology, up to 512MB of system memory, up to 15 Serial ATA hard drives, up to 4GB of battery-protected cache memory and support for Serial ATA (SATA) II disk technology.

The D-Link DSN-3200 with eight 1GbE ports can run up to 15 drives with storage capacity only limited to the size of the drives and can handle more than 80,000 input/outputs (I/Os) per second. The D-Link DSN-3400, with the industry's first 10GbE interface, speeds up data traffic with the powerful 10 Gbps interface and up to 1160MBs bandwidth, easily surpassing the speed of a 4Gbps Fibre Channel SAN. By using existing Ethernet technology, the cost associated with separate host bus adapters and the per-Gigabyte cost for storage is significantly reduced.

For applications that don't need the capacity of 15 bays, the brand new D-Link DSN-2100 is an eight bay device based on the same powerful SoC with a capacity of eight terabytes.

Seeing Green

Reducing power consumption, along with other eco-friendly features and competitive price tags, are the greatest benefits of D-Link's new Green Ethernet products. Cost and environment-conscious businesses, schools, government agencies and enterprises now can take advantage of the D-Link switches with certification from ENERGY STAR, a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) to promote energy conservation and management best practices.

Earlier Green Ethernet products included DGS-2205 and DGS-2208 five and eight-port unmanaged desktop switches, the DGS-1016D 16-port switch and the DGS-1024D 24-port high-performance rack mountable switches.

D-Link is also introducing the DGS-1216T, DGS0-1224T and DGS-1248T Web Smart switches offering GUI interfaces and Green Ethernet advantages.

For instance, when connected and subsequently powered down, the DGS-2208 multi-port desktop switch can realize up to 80 percent savings in power usage*. D-Link's Green switches conserve energy by recognizing when a port is active or inactive and adjust its power accordingly.

What's your signage?

D-Link enters the digital signage market with a hardware solution and platform that utilizes a centralized content management server to distribute consumer information, advertising and other content to a number of networked digital signs over an in-store wired or wireless media network. Digital signs are becoming popular at coffee shops, airports, restaurants and retail outlets to provide customers with up to the minute information. For more information on D-Link digital signage, see accompanying press release.

Modern Telephony

Another major focus at Interop will be IP telephony for the small-to-medium business. D-Link will be showcasing its latest offering, the new VoiceCenter™ product line, a Microsoft® Response Point™ phone system, which supports both Voice over IP (VoIP) and traditional phone lines.

D-Link VoiceCenter offers all of the essential telephony features required for small businesses, including sought-after voice recognition and built-in Auto Provisioning configuration capabilities. Other features include call forwarding, call hold, and find me-follow me. Voicemail functions include voicemail-to-email forwarding and voicemail retrieval over the phone. Incoming calls are directed by the integrated auto-attendant to assist callers to their destinations. Administrative functions include system status monitoring, voicemail usage summary and system settings backup and restore.

Stay tuned this summer; Microsoft, together with D-Link, will release a free upgrade to the current Response Point phone system software. Response Point SP1 will enable small businesses to easily supplement their existing phone service with VoIP services, allowing our customers to scale much more rapidly and cost-effectively than with traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN) lines.

Focus on Security

D-Link booth visitors also will get a demonstration of the company's end-to-end solutions for network security across the full product line.

D-Link's family of network appliances are secured by the company's NetDefend™ Firewalls, a comprehensive suite of security features that are structured into a dedicated integrated platform, NetDefendOS. The operating system seamlessly integrates virtual private network (VPN), intrusion detection and prevention (IDP/IPS), gateway anti-virus, anti-spam and web content filtering, traffic management, and high availability.

D-Link's firewall products offer an innovative end-point security technology, ZoneDefense™, that works in conjunction with D-Link switches. When the firewall product detects a threat from within a network, such as worms, this unique defense mechanism will command the switch to shut down the port where the attack is originating from, thereby preventing further corruption.

D-Link xStack switches also address security problems such as IP/MAC Spoofing, Man-in-the-Middle attacks, rogue DHCP server, network looping, virus/trojans/worms/DoS attacks.

The NetDefend Firewall series recently received certification from the standards-setting ICSA Labs, the central authority for research, intelligence and certification of tested products for the industry worldwide. These products include DFL-210, DFL-800 and DFL-1600.

Honeywell

D-Link has teamed up with Honeywell to implement a fail-safe video surveillance infrastructure for casinos and other businesses where uptime is critical. Honeywell will be present with their surveillance equipment featuring D-Link advanced switches.
