D-Link Builds Business Networking Reputation With Switch 'Test Drive' Offer

Leading Manufacturer Extends Successful Promotion Offering Free Network Switches in a 'You Like It -- You Keep It' Sales Initiative

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - March 11, 2008) - What if you took a test drive in a new car and the sales rep said, "You seem to like this one, why don't you keep it?" Leading computer hardware manufacturer D-Link is offering just such a deal to qualified medium and large enterprise businesses comparing network switches.

According to Keith A. Karlsen, executive vice president of D-Link Systems, Inc. in Fountain Valley, Calif., the program provides qualified businesses with a free network switch so they can compare its quality in their information technology (IT) operations risk-free. The no-strings-attached program is designed to prove that D-Link® solutions are reliable, cost-effective, and worthy of comparison to any competing switch, he said.

"We feel so confident in our products that we are willing to let our customers try out a switch for free and see for themselves that our products are capable of running their day-to-day operations," added Karlsen. "It is a win-win for organizations looking for higher quality network components at the most competitive pricing on the market."

The idea for the D-Link Test Drive Program was developed last year when many of D-Link's potential customers were looking for alternatives to higher priced networking solutions from D-Link competitors. Some were unaware that D-Link, known by many for its home networking solutions, is first and foremost a major manufacturer and worldwide supplier of business networking equipment, including switches, WLAN, storage and IP surveillance. In fact, D-Link sells more unmanaged switch ports worldwide than any other company, according to In-Stat, a leading research firm*.

"Internally, the question was: how do we prove to potential customers we design and build products that compete on the business front?" Karlsen added. The answer was: "Let's give them a switch to try for free."

By late last year, sales leads from IT professionals quadrupled, and with hundreds of managed switches from the D-Link xStack™ family now "seeded" with organizations of all sizes, from a school district in Colorado to Ivy League universities, and from municipalities to hospitals, the Test Drive promotion represents millions in new revenue potential. About one third of all switches placed to date have resulted in purchases.

"Once our prospects try a D-Link switch, they want more. It is turning out to be one of the best revenue-generating programs we have ever had," said Karlsen.

In-Stat Networking Analyst Victoria Fodale said, "D-Link's bold sales initiative is a welcome sign that the leading vendors are aware of today's market needs and challenges and are providing organizations of all sizes the opportunity to maintain their IT operations with equipment that they can afford and will sustain them over the long haul."

The Test Drive Program also coincides with recently announced price reductions of up to 25 percent on D-Link's Web Smart™ smart switches. Both D-Link initiatives are designed to encourage small, medium and large businesses to continue building and maintaining their computer network infrastructure despite the challenges posed by recent economic developments both here and abroad.
