D-Link Keeps Isolated Population Connected

Network Solutions Help Deliver Low-Cost, High Bandwidth Internet Access to Communities in "Sub-Rural" Texas

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - September 15, 2008) - D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumer and business, is helping bring Internet access to parts of central Texas classified as 'sub-rural' -- communities that are so small and isolated that they are not recognized by the Census Bureau -- by providing routers and managed switches to LiveAir Networks, a technical services company that brings digital microwave Internet service to the region.

In order to meet the Internet connectivity needs of its customers, LiveAir designed and installed digital microwave antennae on water towers and other tall structures to deliver network traffic to geographically remote towns, using D-Link® routers and switching solutions to facilitate and manage transmissions.

"LiveAir customers are way out in the boondocks. Many of our target markets are not census-recognized districts. Upton, Northrup, Winchester, Pin Oak and Serbin are not even classified as 'rural' by the USDA. They're 'sub-rural,'" said LiveAir Networks' CEO, James W. Breeden. "They receive spotty, if any, cell phone service, so it's understandable that staying connected to the Internet is a priority in this region."

"D-Link xStack™ switches are installed in some of the harshest environments in the region and their durability has served us well," said Breeden. "We're also impressed with the management features that allow us to remotely manage several switches at a time and verify point-to-point links and uptime."

LiveAir opted for D-Link routers to bridge signals from the digital towers to Ethernet ports and have been "very happy with both performance and reliability," Breeden said. "With the digital microwave network and D-Link routers we're able to deliver high speed, low cost Internet access to businesses and residents across portions of three counties."
