Dairy Council of Florida Teams Up With Try Running Kids to Encourage Healthy Lifestyles for Children

Strategic Partnership Combines Resources to Tackle Childhood Obesity Crisis by Expanding 'Journey to Fitness' Adventure-Based Interactive Edutainment in School Classrooms

MAITLAND, FL and LAKE MARY, FL--(Marketwire - February 17, 2009) - The Dairy Council of Florida (DCF) and Try Running Kids (TRK), a company whose mission is to promote healthy lifestyles through adventure-based interactive educational entertainment (edutainment) programs in classrooms nationwide, announced today it is teaming up to tackle the overwhelming child obesity issue in the U.S.

"Today's children are increasingly overweight and yet undernourished, rarely meeting their daily nutritional requirements for key nutrients of concern -- calcium, magnesium or potassium. The school environment is an ideal setting for teaching healthy eating and physical fitness behaviors," said Jennifer W. Sills, Registered Dietitian for the Dairy Council of Florida. An estimated one-fourth of a child's daily nutritional requirement for breakfast and one-third of their daily lunch requirement are provided through school meal programs.

"We're pleased to support Try Running Kids' action-oriented programs with nutrition education, resources and incentives to make positive and lasting changes in the lives of today's youth," added Sills.

"The Dairy Council of Florida has a long history of supporting healthy, nutritional programs in schools, and we're proud to partner with them on our Journey to Fitness adventure series to address the health crisis affecting today's kids," said Try Running Kids Executive Director Jim Taylor.

As part of this strategic partnership, the DCF will provide information and resources to expand TRK's Journey to Fitness video series. In the Journey to Fitness video series, kids perform physical exercises in the classroom, while learning about nutrition and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Self-directed personal goals, group challenges, online games, healthy recipes, fun fitness and nutrition facts, physical fitness and school fund raising are all elements of TRK programs.

Try Running Kids will provide its expertise in youth programs, education and technology and its proven experience in developing programs with measureable results that are helping to solve critical needs such as childhood obesity, meeting the schools' physical fitness requirements, and helping schools raise money they so desperately need.

This partnership will be part of DCF's new child nutrition and fitness initiative that focuses on empowering kids to make smart choices about their nutrition and physical activity. Visit www.nutritionexplorations.org to learn more.
