Dairy Farmers Produced 2.5 Billion Litres of Milk in 2005

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 13, 2006) - Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) reported marketings of 2.5 billion litres of milk for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2005. The figure was released with the presentation of DFO's Annual Report at its 40th Annual Meeting in Toronto on January 11 and represented a slight decrease from the previous year.

For this milk, DFO billed processors $1.67 billion. The organization retained
$63.4 million for milk transportation, $11.0 million for administration of the marketing system, $29.3 million for market expansion and about $1 million to support research.

The organization also collected $1.49 million for CanWest DHI in support of milk recording programs.

The $1.57 billion balance was paid to the 4,971 licenced dairy farms in Ontario, which support about 9,000 families.

Dairy Farmers of Ontario is a non-profit dairy farmer organization that represents all milk producers in Ontario and is totally financed by them.
