Dalhousie University and Enterprise Rent-A-Car Launch Canada's First WeCar Car-Sharing Program for Students, Faculty and Staff

WeCar Enhances Dalhousie University's Sustainability Initiatives, Provides Alternative Transportation Solution

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - April 12, 2011) - WeCar, a car-sharing program by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Dalhousie University have come together to bring faculty, staff and students a cost-effective, convenient and totally automated car-rental program that provides a membership-based, environmentally friendly transportation alternative. The partnership marks WeCar's expansion into Canada with its first Canadian location.

WeCar will offer members access to two models at Dalhousie University: a Chevy Malibu hybrid and a Ford Fiesta. The vehicles will be parked and available at both Sexton and Studley campus locations.

"Car sharing is one transportation demand management strategy that can help to encourage car-pooling," said Rochelle Owen, director of Dalhousie's Office of Sustainability. "It can also reduce vehicles being brought to campus for errands and meetings."

Members have 24-hour access to the vehicles and can reserve them online at any time. The cars can be rented hourly or overnight, allowing members to maintain the benefits of a personal car while only paying for the vehicle when they use it.

WeCar's on-campus program is especially popular with students because it provides an option to financial concerns associated with having a car. It is also a totally automated solution to parking and transportation challenges on campus. For faculty and staff, WeCar car sharing offers a transportation alternative for personal and business use.

"We are thrilled to introduce WeCar's first car-sharing program in Canada with Dalhousie University," Andy Feldman, vice president, general manager of Enterprise in Atlantic Canada. "Because the program helps take cars off the road and the vehicles are hybrids and fuel-efficient vehicles, WeCar will help the university meet its environmental sustainability goals."

"I am excited about the potential opportunity and benefits for the Dalhousie community by reducing daily dependence on use of personal vehicles," says Mike Drane, Dalhousie's director of purchasing. "I am hopeful that people will give serious consideration to this program"

WeCar also operates customized car-sharing programs throughout the United States and England. Enterprise is currently providing WeCar car-sharing programs for corporate campuses, universities and municipal governments in 17 states throughout the U.S.
